What happens to what you send me

This website
It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. It loads no fonts, scripts or images from any other company. The host that serves the page sees your IP address and the page you asked for, as any web host does. I do not keep it.
When you use the form, or email me
- What I hold: your name, your email address, your website address, and whatever you write.
- Why: to reply, and if you become a client, to do the work you've asked for. The lawful basis is taking steps at your request before a contract, and then the contract itself.
- Where it lives: what the form sends is stored with Cloudflare, in my account, and copied to my own computer when I collect it; an email sits in my mailbox. It is not shared, sold or used for marketing. Alongside the form's fields the store keeps the time it arrived and a reference number. When I collect it, the copy at Cloudflare is deleted; anything I never collect Cloudflare deletes by itself after twelve months. To slow a flood, your internet address is also kept as part of a counter for one hour after your last send, then it expires; it is not kept with your message.
- How long: an enquiry that goes nowhere is deleted after twelve months. If you become a client, invoices and the records behind them are kept as long as HMRC requires for self-employed accounts, which is at least five years after the filing deadline of the tax year they belong to. Everything else is deleted within twelve months of the job ending.
- Who else sees it: my mailbox is hosted by Apple, and this page and the form's store by Cloudflare; both carry the data and nothing more. Nobody else, unless you ask me to work with your hosting company or web agency, and then only what they need.
Your rights
You can ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, delete it or restrict how I use it, object to my using it, and ask for a copy of what you sent me in a form you can take elsewhere. Email me and I will answer within a month. If you are not happy with my answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
